It is always fun to hear students say, "That was fun!", as they are practicing the key concepts in a class.  This happened just the other day in class as Ms. Kim created a task that required a lot of cardboard cutouts, markers, a big sheet of paper and a bunch of friends.

Students had the chance to practice their new found skills in calculating area in a hands on way.  They did a great job using the formulas they have learned to find the answer they were looking for.  With the math test just around the corner, this activity gave them the chance to practice everything they have learned.  Here are some pictures from the class.

Two months of preparation = a lot of fun at MUN.  Students came to school today in the finest formal wear and did a fantastic job participating in MUN.  The whole event was excellent.  Students were well prepared, debated well, followed procedures (most of the time) and did a great job as they learned just what MUN actually is.  A HUGE congratulations goes out to all Grade 7's and 8's.

You have accomplished many great things today.  It is my hope that this is a memory that lasts forever in your memory, and, that this experience encourages you to participate in future MUN conferences!

Here are some quotes from the day:

- "MUN is awesome.  Simply awesome!"
- "Who knew work could be so fun!"
- " I want to win an award...I want to win an award!"
- "I am going to destroy Belgium when I get up there"
- " What?  Are you talking to me."
- "That...was...awesome".
- "Who knew that in there I had a brain all this time".

And it was awesome.  You all did great.  You should be very proud.

The first ever HISMUN Conference is quickly approaching!  Students have been working very hard to get all their ideas together to be ready for the event on March 7th.

MUN is an important part of the learning process and is a curricular wonderland as it packs in public speaking, debating, procedures, speeches, team work, and problem solving into on activity.

MUN is a compulsory component of the Social Studies Curriculum and as such students must make every effort to participate.

Parents are invited to attend the conference anytime after 1:30 and

Today, 4 students from Grade 7 competed in the Grade 7/8 Spelling Bee.  Congratulations to Marwan, Dina, Youssef K and Mahmoud for your hard work in preparing for the Spelling Bee.  Your efforts were evident when words like pneumonia and horrific did not cause you trouble.

A special congratulations goes to Mahmoud for winning the Grade 7 side of the Spelling Bee!  Great work everyone.

The Environment Fair was an excellent display of student work.  On February 7th, 2013, Grade 7's hosted the fair in the school Multi-Purpose room.  There were many visitors from other students (10 full classes came to visit), administrators, school directors and parents.

The students all proudly displayed their work for all to see and had the opportunity to present and teach their environment topic to those that came to visit.  There were some very creative displays full of excellent information.

Great work to all Grade 7's!

Come out to the school on February 7th, 2013 from 8:30 - 12:05 to see approximately 25 displays on Human Impacts on the Environment.  Grade 7 students have worked very hard to put together interesting displays discussing the social impacts of changes in the environment.  Pictures to be posted after the Fair!

Come and see how human behaviour has transformed our environment and what the Grade 7's are proposing as possible solutions to problems such as:

1) Glacier Melting
2) Carbon Emissions
3) Amazon Rainforest
4) Salt water Pollution

And many more!

The Holiday season is upon us.  Yesterday, the Grade 7 class did an excellent job at the Holiday Celebration as they sang a song and accompanied a young student on instruments.  All students that participated should be very proud of their performance.

Mr. Jeffrey and Ms. Kim wish all students and families a very restful and happy holiday.  Students are also reminded that they have been given their Exam Study Packages in the event that they have time over the holiday to study.  Exams will be at the end of January, so, if students do not have the chance to study, they will still have time in January.  But, it is never too early to prepare!  Students are also reminded that they have been given a book to read over the holiday.  This book must be completed by the time they come back to classes as there will be a comprehension test for the book upon their return.  Students should also be documenting their

Wherever the holidays take you this season, we hope that you are surrounded by family and friends.  See you all in January!

The holidays are just around the corner.  Everyone is excited for a 3 week break from school.  It is normal at this time of year to need a rest.  But, before that can happen, there are still 2 days left!

On Thursday, students received mark printouts.  This is strictly for the purpose of having students know what they still need to hand in.  It is important to get all their work done so that they do not receive a zero.  Students have until January 10th to submit their assignments.

On the exciting end of the spectrum is that on Monday, the last day of classes, 7A and 7B will be having a Holiday party.  Details are still being determined and you will hear shortly about what you are to bring to the party.

Parent Teacher meetings are on November 22nd.  It is hoped that all parents will be able to come to meet with their child's teacher.  If you are unable to be at the scheduled meeting, please make arrangements to come at another time or on another day.

Please come at your scheduled time.  Mr. Jeffrey and Ms. Kim have fully booked days.  If you come at a different time, there is no guarantee that we will be able to see you as we will abide by our schedule.

It is also recommended that the students come too!  They have many things they can share and discuss with the parents.  We look forward to seeing everyone of the 22nd!

Today at school we celebrated Halloween.  Even though the grade 7's were not having a party, we still dressed up and had a great time!  Enjoy the pictures of the costumes below!
