WATER PARK PROJECT and RUBRIC can be found under the Unit 4 Project heading.
Check out this website to watch videos and play games! Just click on the Grade 7/8 tab on the left and find a topic to practice. Scroll down the page to find geometry and circles games and videos.
Here you can find the homework as well as the worksheets that get handed out in class. If you lose your worksheet, come to the website first to see if it is here before coming to ask Ms. Kim. If you ask Ms. Kim first, she will send you right back to the website. But, if you have the worksheet and just do not understand, come and ask, she will certainly help. Ms. Kim is available everyday at lunch in her room; so, come and stop by!
Here you will also find Power Point lessons that can provide an important reminder on how to answer questions in your homework. If you find that you are confused, check the Power Point and it may make the homework a little easier. Yes, you still need to take notes in class because I will check your binders periodically. Writing your notes down in class is an important step in the learning process! Plus, there will be a lot of extra information provided in class that you would really want to have written down.

Gauss Math Contest
The Gauss Math Contest will be on May 16th, 2013. This is a 25 question, multiple choice test that will challenge the students in Grade 7 to think creatively about all that they have learned this year. All students will receive participation certificates and high scores will be recognized.
Each week between April 14th and May 12th, students will be given 25 practice questions in class. These practice questions come from previous years contests. Solutions for the questions can be found at this website. The solutions provided give in depth detail as how to solve the problem. It is important for students to practice answering the questions as they are in a different format and are phrased differently than typical test questions.

Unit One - Patterns and Relations
This unit looks at patterns in division. During this unit students will investigate how they can use division to find patterns in input/output tables, as well as how to use other patterns to solve for an unknown number. This unit builds on the first unit in grade 6 where students learned the basics of input and output tables. To practice divisibility rules through an online quiz, visit this link:

Unit 1 Enrichment (A little more advanced)
The worksheets below all came from www.math-drills.com. This is an excellent website with hundreds of free worksheets for students to have extra practice. The worksheets below are all intended for students that are interested in trying to solve for the value of the variable in an algebraic equation. This concept will be covered in more depth later in the year. The answers are all provided for these activities.

Unit Two - Integers
In this unit, you will learn how to add and subtract integers. An integer is a number that is either positive or negative. You will learn to add and subtract integers using tiles and number lines, as well as by straight calculations. It is very important to have a good understanding of integers as positive and negative numbers will reappear throughout you studies in mathematics. Homework in this unit comes primarily through a set of handouts, so, if you miss a class, make sure you check the website for the corresponding Power Point lesson and set of handouts.
In the first couple classes of this lesson, Ms. Kim will not be teaching the classes. The substitute will be walking through the necessary information as an introduction to the unit. This will include a review of number lines.

Unit Three: Fractions, Decimals and Percents
Ah, the dreaded fraction. Do not fret, it is not so bad. In this unit, the emphasis is on converting fractions to decimals, decimals to percents and percents to fractions. There will be a review of how to simplify fractions and how to find equivalent fractions in this unit. Homework from this unit is from a variety of handouts, website tasks, worksheets and textbook questions.
Unit Three PowerPoints
These are the PowerPoints for Unit 3. Over the winter holiday, you can review these PowerPoints to develop a greater understanding of Unit 3. This will be beneficial for your exam. Understanding how to convert fractions to decimals and percents as well as how to perform all 4 operations with decimals is a very important skill that will continue through the rest of the year and in future years of mathematics as well. Take time to practice. Additional practice can be found at:
www.math-drills.com - By going to this website, you can find all kinds of worksheets, with answers to help practice decimals and fractions.

At the completion of Unit 3, students will move to Unit 5. The purpose for this is to maintain consistency as Unit 5 continues working with Fractions. Since Unit 3 was based with fractions, it is a natural continuation to move to Unit 5 next. Unit 5 is a very short unit and will be completed prior to the Mid Term Exam. Therefore, Units 1, 2, 3 and 5 will be on the Mid Term Exam at the end of January. Unit 4 will then begin after the Exam Period.
Unit Four: Circles and Area
Circles make the world go round...or, at least circles go around. In this unit you will learn the foundations of how to find radius, diameter, circumference and area of a circle. Then, you will learn how to find the area of other shapes such as triangles and parallelograms. Do not worry, it is not as hard as it sounds...a little series of formulas will help you through it all! Make sure you have a compass and protractor for this unit. It is necessary to be successful and to understand all the key concepts in the unit. Do not know how to use one? You will learn in this unit.

Unit Five: Operations with Fractions
Back to the fraction. This time it is fractions all the way. Here you will learn how to add and subtract fractions. There are many steps involved, but once you have them memorized, the task becomes pattern-like. Word problems abound in this unit. There are no powerpoints in Unit 5. Students will be expected to take all notes by hand and practice all examples given in class. Unit 5 is very short and the Unit test will be on February 18th (7A) and February 19th (7B).
Unit Six: Equations
In this unit, we will take what was learned about expressions in Unit One, and use that to help solve for the value of an unknown variable. You will also learn 4 different ways to solve for the unknown variable. Yes, you need to know how to use all 4.
This unit will be very short and students will be expected to complete all of their homework in the Math Makes Sense 2 Book.
Unit Seven: Data Analysis
This unit is all about statistics. How to find the mean, median, mode and range of data set and how this knowledge can apply to regular life. Then it is on to probability where students will use tree diagrams to determine the likelihood of an event occurring.
Unit Seven PowerPoints

Unit Eight: Geometry
Lines, lines and more lines. Parallel or perpendicular. Bisector or not? You will know by the end of this unit. Make sure you have your compass, protractor and ruler ready for this unit! Also in this unit are reflections and translations of shapes on the Cartesian Plane. Does this sound like a different language to you? It won't soon!
